Clean up for 2022 hurricane season
,West Palm Beach’s green waste amnesty days will be held May 2 - 13, to help residents trim their shrubs and trees before hurricane season.
Residents are encouraged to place an unlimited amount of vegetative waste curbside for pickup at no additional cost, as the service charge will be waived during this period.
Vegetation includes grass clippings, leaves, tree and shrubbery cuttings or trimmings, broken or cut tree limbs and logs and other vegetation incidental to the care of lawns and gardens.
The Public Works Department will pick up the green waste during residents’ regularly scheduled yard waste pickup days — which for Flamingo Park is Tuesdays — May 3 and May 10.
The result is a citywide cleanup effort in preparation for hurricane season, which begins June 1. Proper removal of landscape debris helps keep storm drains clear and minimizes flooding associated with summer rains.
To take advantage of Vegetation Amnesty Days, please follow the city’s guidelines for yard/bulk waste disposal:
• Place waste at curbside no earlier than the day preceding your scheduled day of collection.
• Contain waste to only one pile.
• Place grass cuttings, small trimmings and leaves in plastic bags.
• Cut tree limbs and branches into lengths no longer than 4 feet.
• Cut tree trunks and stumps into sections no longer than 4 feet and no larger than 12 inches in diameter.
• Do not mix yard waste with any other type of debris.
Vegetation Amnesty Days do not apply to commercial properties or landscape contractors, who must remove all trimmings year-round.
