The city is drafting significant proposals affecting roads throughout Flamingo Park and has approached the association board for feedback.
Residents are asked to weigh in on the best use of $3 million being spent for planning, design and construction of the roadway improvements in our neighborhood.
Right now, the main projects being considered by the city are as follows:
1. Repaving Georgia and Lake avenues, and Flamingo and Ardmore drives.
2. Adding two small roundabouts on Lake Avenue: one at Flamingo and another at Ardmore.
3. Changing the Lake Avenue configuration to one of these four options, which might or might not include   the roundabouts:
Option 1:  Two-way road with dedicated bike lanes and no parking allowed on Lake.
Option 2: Two-way road with “sharrow” lanes  in which bikes share the road with cars. Dedicated parallel parking on the west side of street only (which we could move to the east side).
Option 3: One-way road with dedicated bike lanes and parallel parking on west side of street (or the east side).  This option would require Georgia Avenue to become one way as well.
Note: Changing both Lake and Georgia avenues to one-way traffic would require 75% of residents who live on those streets to approve.
Option 4: Pave the road with no changes from the current configuration.
4. Installing signs and reflective markers close to speed bumps on the 800 blocks throughout Flamingo Park.
5. Adding thermoplastic crosswalk patterns.
6. Improving drainage in troubled areas.
7. Repairing uneven and damaged sidewalks.
An important Zoom meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m., to gather input on these proposals. To join at the appointed time:
• Go to www.Zoom.us
• Click on “Join a meeting”
• Enter meeting ID (256 545 6621) and password  (7nDHhV).
The board desires maximum feedback from residents, as we are all potentially affected by these plans. Email President Dan Begley (dan@begleyandassociates realty.com) if you have questions.
